Big Savings on TV!

It's not so often you bump into great savings. Check this one out:

Home entertainment innovator Devant recently formed a partnership with Pioneer Films for an exclusive promotion that puts on spotlight two of the most popular names in the world of entertainment – Devant, renowned makers of ground-breaking home electronics, and “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse,” the highly anticipated third film in the phenomenal “Twilight Saga” series based on the books by Stephanie Mayer.

Dubbed “Power of 2: An Eclipse Blockbuster Deal by Devant,” the major promo offers consumers the rare opportunity to own two Devant 37” LCD TVs for only P64,950. In addition, they get two NextBase HDMI Players, Wall Bracket, and HDMI Cable -- all for free. The total savings from availing this incredible package is nearly P12,000. In conjunction with the theatrical release of “Eclipse” which begins on June 30, the “Power of 2” promo is scheduled to run from June 1 to July 31 only.

“We are very excited about Power of 2 because of the huge savings it offers to customers. It’s a rare treat -- just like Eclipse. It’s not every day that something like this happens: one blockbuster Devant deal and one blockbuster film,” says Ms. Lara Lua, advertising and promotions manager for Devant.

Devant’s multifaceted promotion includes sponsorship of Magic 89.9’s Eclipse Premiere Night on June 29 at Cinema 6 in Glorietta 4, Makati. The “Power of 2” radio plug will be aired on Magic 89.9 until end-July while Devant products including exclusive Devant-Eclipse shirts will be raffled off during the Premiere Night.

“Twilight Saga” series followers and mall shoppers will be doubly delighted when they visit the Devant Exhibit Caravan at SM Megamall from June 17 to 30, at Ocampo’s Bataan from June 16 to 30, Savers Olongapo from June 1 to 30, Magic Mall at Urdaneta from June 21 to July , Automatic Appliance Fair at Trinoma Activity Center from July 5 to 21. Magic Nepo Mall at Dagupan from June 21 to 30 and at Robinsons Appliance Fair at Robinsons Ermita from July 23 to July 30  wherein free Devant-Eclipse shirts will be given away with every qualifying purchase.

Devant will also be having a nationwide raffle promo with SM Cinema from June 30 to July 18. For every purchase of one “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” ticket at any SM Cinema, the moviegoer is entitled to one raffle coupon. At stake are 100 Eclipse t-shirts as consolation prizes and one Devant 37” LCD TV as grand prize. The grand draw will be on July 30. Another sight to behold is the new Devant LEDTech LCD TV playing the Eclipse trailer at SM Cinema in Megamall, North Edsa, The Block, Marikina, and Mall of Asia.

Fierce at Fifteen

I barely made it to the Metrowear show last week. Looking for parking was hard, lining up to get in was even harder. The humid weather didn’t help, too!  But, despite all these, everyone (including me) was in good spirits and looking forward to the show that awaited us.
Last year’s Metrowear gave me a sensory overload of sights and sounds worthy of a concert. Thanks to famed fashion director Robby Carmona, who brought in live music via choral group, singers, and even a violinist.  “Of course, there will be a comparison with all we did last year... this even should be better than last year, no less.  It’s a perfect collaboration... Metro and us both share ideas to make it truly memorable for everybody,” shares Carmona.
And it was, indeed, another night to remember, with three established groups celebrating their 15th anniversary: Young Designers’ Guild (YDG), the Fashion and Design Council of the Philippines (FDCP) and Carmona’s company, Saga Events.
Although the waiting time was pretty long—there were so many awards by the sponsors that I stopped counting—the first collection by YDG made up for it. The group’s president, Louis Claparols, wowed the crowd with tribal-Aztec meets spacegirl outfits. His gown, as worn by model Girlie Benitez, and a body-con cocktail dress, as modeled by actress Maricar Reyes, are tops on my list.
Louis
Regine Dulay’s dresses were all about ropes and knots, in different color combinations,
that give a modern and ethnic feel.  I wonder how long it took him and his staff to make them.
Regine
Eric delos Santos went for rugged with his choice of knitted fabrics in multi-hued blues.
His trademark drapes in unexpected places are always a pleasant surprise.

Eric
Ferdie Abuel worked with a single shade of muted mocha, highlighting it
with pleated drapes and twists that showcased modern femininity with a bit of fun flavoring.
Ferdie
Of course, who could ever forget the late Brian Leyva’s exceptional work?  The group’s exhibit ended with Grace Tagle walking out in
Leyva’s creation of the terno suit, made with one-centavo coins.  Amazing work that we hope will inspire a new breed of designers.
Brian
As expected, live music was a staple as provided by electro-punk rock band Pedicab, DJ duo The Diegos for the YDG. For the second set, Jet Pangan and The Philippine Opera Company gave the musical “backdrop” for the FDCP with Vic Barba opening in his collection of metallic bronze, pleated, shift dresses, with matching bronze-colored hi-cut sneaks. Known for structured suits, JC Buendia surprised us with a pair of loose jersey pants that’s appropriate for both corporate wear and nights out. His all-white ensemble, with white sequined hot pants, is a keeper, too!
JC
Ivarluski Aseron challenged himself with soft cut fabrics this time, placing them in strategic places
that offer a fluttering movement that’s delicately graceful;
ivar
while OJ Hofer went for sexy seduction in
a white, leopard-print, floor-length dress with power shoulders.
OJ
Jojie Lloren ended the show with little black dresses embroidered with roses,
evoking a dark, Oriental feel.
Jojie
With over a hundred creations that night, both the YDG and the FDCP proved that Philippine fashion is getting better and reaching world-class distinction.  Thanks to Metro magazine, who “has always been the venue for designers to show what we have to offer as individuals to the public,” shares FDCP board member Len Nepomuceno-Guaio.  Cheers to YDG, FDCP and Saga Events!

Pinoy Watch

You voted. Your choice got the presidential seat, or he or she didn’t. Either way, this year’s elections are different, not least because of the new technology. Everyone is thirsting for positive change. Pinoy pride is definitely at its peak.
In the fashion world, embroidered Philippine map shirts are a hit. Even graphic and statement shirts that show Pinoy Pride are hot sellers. Small wonder that watch brand Odm joins the pride parade by releasing its odm+Pilipinas collection. Featuring its most popular DD99B model, with a unique graphic interpretation of the Philippine map printed on its soft silicon wristband. The message “Bayang Magiliw… Pilipinas” scrolls across the screen, too!

Choose from four versions, all in the colors of the Philippine flag: white with black and gray imprints; yellow with black and white imprints; black with yellow, white and gray imprints; and black with red, white and blue imprints.

odm+Pilipinas watches are available at L Timestudio, Wristpod, Chronos, and at SM, Landmark and Robinson’s department stores.

My boss and Fashion Editor of I section (Manila Bulletin), Joyce Fernandez,

Last, but not the Least

Words are not enough to describe how fabulously breathtaking Michael Cinco’s Holiday 2010 collection is, which received the Producer’s Award for “Best Show of the Season,” from Philippine Fashion Week. Inspired by the opera Madama Butterfly, his latest collection transported the audience to another realm where Old-World Japanese glamour is infused with the creative mind of the Dubai-based designer.
From the moment Jo-Ann Bitagcol stepped out, we were mesmerized. The first set of all whites and nudes focused on the exquisite craftsmanship. Cinco has successfully created the powerful yet graceful mix of soft fabrics and structured bodycon silhouettes.

A bit more color was injected with a climactic convertible outfit by Ria Bolivar. Like a man watching a geisha as she does her moves of seduction on stage, my eyes were hooked on Bolivar. She took off the first layer of her cocktail dress and converted it into a kimono, giving it a totally different but equally jaw-dropping number.

A multitude of exquisitely beaded gowns came out after. Each, totally different from the former. Each, having its own distinct style and color combination. But all of them mirrored the designer’s basic principles and trademark work—amazing beadwork on the bodice.

Though quite known for making glamour gowns like that of Angel Locsin’s for the International Emmy Awards, Cinco has proven that he is also well adept in making cocktail dresses. With beaded bodices as his base, in either gradient tones or contrasting ones, these short dresses come with asymmetrical hemlines, full-skirt styles, even with floral appliqués that give them a more playful and youthful vibe.
It was a show that we secretly wished didn’t have to end. But we knew it was about to when the bridal collection followed. IMG_1891 (Large)

Jasmine Maierhofer looked every inch the dreamy bride in an off-white, beaded tube gown that had a voluminous skirt with cascading, beaded appliqués. No jewelry was on her, except on her coiffed hair that had tons of sparkling brooches, giving an aura of fantasy.

Such a grand finale, indeed, for Philippine Fashion Week.

Thank you for sharing your talent and for making this memorable collection, Michael Cinco!
